Lead a Campaign That Matters
Campaign Leaders help turn concerns into organised, evidence-based campaigns that inform the public, engage decision-makers and push for practical change.
Right First Time UK campaigns on issues affecting people, families, communities and public services across the UK.
You do not need to be a politician, lawyer or professional campaigner to apply.
We are interested in people who care about an issue, are willing to learn, can work with others and want to help bring about positive change.
What Does a Campaign Leader Do?
Campaign Leaders help organise and develop individual campaigns while working with the Right First Time UK team and directors.
Lead a Campaign
Help shape the aims, priorities and direction of an approved RFTUK campaign.
Research & Evidence
Gather reliable information, official reports, experiences, statistics and supporting evidence.
Raise Awareness
Help explain issues clearly through campaign pages, information, social media and public engagement.
Bring People Together
Work with members, volunteers, affected people, organisations and supporters.
Engage Decision-Makers
Help prepare correspondence and campaign material for MPs, councils, government departments and public bodies.
Represent the Campaign
Where authorised, help represent an approved campaign at meetings, events and public discussions.
Experience Matters in Different Ways
There is no single background required. Lived experience, professional knowledge, research ability and community involvement can all be valuable.
Lived Experience
Personal experience of a public service or issue can help shape practical campaign priorities.
Research
An interest in facts, evidence, official information and understanding how systems work.
Communication
Being able to explain an issue clearly, respectfully and constructively.
Teamwork
Working with volunteers, members, directors and other people involved in the campaign.
Reliability
Keeping people informed and following agreed processes where responsibilities have been accepted.
Willingness to Learn
You do not need to know everything before applying; training and support can be provided where appropriate.

Some Actions Need Approval

- major media statements;
- official accounts or access to sensitive information;
- high-risk allegations or publications;
- major changes to an approved campaign objective.
A Role Designed Around the Time You Can Give
Campaign Leader roles are voluntary and unpaid. There are no fixed hours and no expectation that somebody must always be available.
We want people to contribute in a way that fits around work, family, caring responsibilities, health, studies and other commitments.
Different campaigns need different levels of activity. The important things are communication, fairness, respect and working within the responsibilities agreed for the role.
From Application to Campaign Work
The exact process can vary, but Campaign Leader onboarding normally follows a clear set of stages.
1. Apply
Tell us about your interests, experience and the campaign area you want to support.
2. Review
Your application and suitability are reviewed by Right First Time UK.
3. Onboarding

4. Begin
Once approved and ready, help develop and move forward an agreed campaign.
Help Turn Public Concerns Into Constructive Action
If you care about an issue and want to help research it, explain it and campaign for practical improvement, a Campaign Leader role may be a way to get involved.
