Secure Member Surveys & Voting
This public page explains how member participation works. Live surveys, consultations and eligible member votes are completed inside the secure Members Area, where your membership login and voting eligibility are checked.

Three Different Ways to Participate
Not every question put to members is a formal vote. The type of participation should always be made clear.
Member Surveys
Surveys help us understand experiences, opinions and priorities across the membership. Survey results can inform research and future work but are normally advisory rather than binding.
Consultations
Consultations allow members to comment on an idea, proposal, policy, campaign or organisational development before decisions are made.
Formal Member Votes
Where a matter requires a formal vote, the voting notice should explain who is eligible, what is being decided, when voting closes and how the result will be determined.
Member Voting Principles
Where Right First Time UK uses formal member voting, the process should be clear and consistent.
One Eligible Member
A valid member account should represent one eligible member within the voting process.
One Valid Vote
The secure server should prevent duplicate voting on the same formal member vote.
Clear Question
Members should understand exactly what they are being asked to decide.
Clear Result
Where appropriate, results should show the number of valid votes and the outcome.
Survey Results Are Not Automatically Formal Decisions
It is important to distinguish between a survey, a consultation and a formal member vote.
A survey may be used to understand what members think. A consultation may help shape a proposal before a decision. A formal vote is a specific decision-making process where eligible members are asked to vote on a clearly defined question.
Each participation page should therefore say clearly whether the outcome is advisory or forms part of a formal organisational decision.
Membership should not give one person more influence because they chose the annual membership plan rather than the monthly plan. Where members have equivalent voting rights, the membership payment option should not change the weight of their vote.

Completed surveys and member votes can be archived here so members can see the outcome.

Members can raise ideas, concerns and subjects that they believe deserve wider discussion, research or consultation.
Fair & Responsible Participation
Right First Time UK wants members to be able to disagree respectfully. Member participation should not be used to target individuals, publish private information, encourage harassment or turn unverified allegations into established facts.
Where a question involves significant organisational, financial, legal, safeguarding or governance issues, the Board may need to consider relevant duties and evidence alongside member views.
The purpose of member participation is to strengthen decision-making — not to remove the responsibility of Directors to act lawfully and responsibly.
