Become a Director

Help guide Right First Time UK, strengthen its governance and bring experience, judgement and accountability to the organisation’s leadership.

DIRECTOR RECRUITMENT

Help Shape the Future of Right First Time UK

This is a governance role. Directors help oversee the organisation itself, not simply individual campaigns or projects.

Right First Time UK is interested in people who can bring useful experience, sound judgement and different perspectives to the Board.

Relevant experience can come from professional work, community activity, lived experience, management, finance, safeguarding, policy, communications or other areas that strengthen organisational oversight.

Directors are expected to work constructively with the founders and other directors, understand the limits of their authority and help the organisation develop responsibly.

The aim is not to create a hierarchy for its own sake. It is to make sure important decisions have proper oversight, records and accountability.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

What Could You Bring to the Board?

There is no single professional background required. A balanced Board benefits from different forms of experience.

Budgeting, accounts, financial controls, fundraising, risk or responsible use of organisational funds.

L

Lived & Community Experience

Direct experience of communities and the public systems Right First Time UK examines and helps people navigate.

RESPONSIBILITY & BOUNDARIES

What Directors Are Expected to Do

The role combines responsibility, oversight and teamwork. It is different from being a volunteer or Campaign Leader.

Directors may be expected to

  • take part in Board discussions and decisions;
  • review significant organisational risks and policies;
  • support sensible financial and operational controls;
  • help maintain safeguarding and accountability standards;
  • challenge constructively where something needs closer review;
  • keep appropriate information confidential where required;
  • support the organisation's long-term direction.

The role is not

  • automatic control over every campaign or volunteer;
  • permission to make commitments without agreed authority;
  • a route to use RFTUK for personal interests;
  • a substitute for professional legal, financial or safeguarding advice;
  • a position where one Director acts without proper records or oversight.
