Reviewing progress, needs, outcomes, provision and placement

Annual review is a statutory process, not just a meeting. It considers whether the EHCP remains accurate and whether it should be maintained, amended or ceased.

What to Review

Needs

  • Current needs
  • Changes
  • Updated assessments

Provision

  • Is Section F delivered?
  • Is it enough?
  • Is it effective?

Future

  • Outcomes
  • Placement
  • Transitions
  • Preparation for adulthood

Council Decision

Within four weeks of the review meeting

The local authority must notify the parent or young person whether it will maintain the plan, amend it or cease it.

Prepare

Before

  • Read the EHCP line by line
  • Collect reports
  • Record missing provision

After

  • Keep the review report
  • Diary the four-week deadline
  • Check appeal rights
