Checking needs, provision, outcomes and placement before the plan is finalised
The draft EHCP is the opportunity to identify missing needs, vague provision and factual errors before the plan becomes final.
Your Draft Response Period
GOV.UK states that parents have at least 15 days to comment on a draft EHC plan and can express a placement preference.
Check the Draft
Section B — Needs
- Are all needs included?
- Do they match reports?
Section F — Provision
- Is support clear?
- Is frequency or quantity specified where needed?
Section I — Placement
Check the placement wording and any preference you have made.
Avoid Unclear Provision
Phrases such as “access to”, “as required” or “regular support” may need greater detail where the actual provision can be specified.
